Description
The EVB-UPD1001DC2 from Microchip is an evaluation platform to demonstrate the capabilities of the UPD1001 USB Power Delivery Controller. The UPD1001 is a programmable USB Power Delivery Controller designed as per the USB Power Delivery (USB PD) specification. The UPD1001 allows a host / device to provide up to a maximum of 100 Watts of power (5A, 20V) when connected to a USB Power Delivery capable partner device. When compared to the USB 2.0 specification of 2.5 Watts the power delivery advantages are clear. Outlined in the USB Power Delivery specification are five power profiles for system utilisation, the UPD1001 provides a further 25 power profiles allowing designers to further optimise their product. Typical applications to which the UPD1001 is suited are AC adapters and battery chargers where the benefits of increased power delivery are desirable.
